A Kota Kinabalu native who sought greater ambitions beyond the horizon, Yong would enroll at the illustrious École Supérieure Des Arts Et Techniques De La Mode (ESMOD) fashion school headquartered in Paris under a scholarship, before debuting his eponymous label 'weihaoyong' upon graduating in 2015. In just under a year, he would be tapped to represent Malaysia at the Harper’s Bazaar Asia New Generation Designer Award in 2016. Further recognition of his talents ensued, with stalwart Malaysian fashion luminary Moto Guo commissioning Yong to design a series of silhouettes for a collection that was later shortlisted for the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers.

Following his remarkable splash among the local creative set, Yong's repute would venture abroad with subsequent showcases across a string of global fashion capitals, including Shanghai for Fall 2017 and Paris for Spring/Summer 2018. On the regional circuit, he was invited to show at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, Mercedes-Benz Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, and Singapore Fashion Week.

At 29, the designer has established a firm reputation among Malaysia's belle epoque for his distinctively clean and refined aesthetic, underscoring a more intentional approach to sartorialism expressed through meticulous tailoring, sumptuous materials, and an enduring beauty that both honours the human form and transcends time.

Yong's vision for subtle sophistication is informed by his appreciation of Dadaist art, Brutalist architecture, as well as a longstanding reverence for Phoebe Philo, whose tenure at the French label Celine reformed the doctrine of fashion through a feminist lens. Echoes of his inspirations are evident in the designer’s creative process, which is grounded by a ‘form follows function’ ethos that imbues relaxed sophistication with comfort and ergonomic sensibility.

Painstaking attention to detail ensures that each seam and panel of fabric serves a purpose in Yong’s designs, without taking away from its inherent aesthetic appeal. Visual flair is injected where necessary by way of strategically reworked features, such as sleeves and pockets, while respecting the contours of the body and its movements. The result is a sartorial union of style and substance.

To date, Yong has dressed a notable roster of notable names from within Malaysian society, including Raja Jesrina Raja Arshad and Datin Sri Eannes Chop. Additionally, his works has been featured on by global entertainers as Yuna, Rossa, South Korean actor Ha Ji Won, fashion icon Hearte Evangelista and many more.

Minimalism at its core, is an exercise in the reduction of extraneous excess, distilling complex abstracts into only the purest essentials. In that respect, Aaron Wei Hao Yong counts himself as among one of the movement's staunchest proponents in Malaysian fashion, boasting a refined approach to clothesmaking that eschews flashy novelty in favour of unpretentious good taste.
